BJP blames TMC for post-poll violence in Bengal

BJP president J P Nadda drew a parallel between the post-poll violence in West Bengal with the bloodshed during India's Partition, while his colleagues compared the TMC with Nazis, as the saffron party's leaders protested in different cities on Tuesday against attacks targeting its workers in the state.

Kolkata (West Bengal): As reports of post-poll violence started coming from different corners of West Bengal hours after Trinamool Congress clinched a clear mandate in its favour last Sunday, various BJP leaders slammed Trinamool for the violence.

BJP president J P Nadda drew a parallel between the post-poll violence in West Bengal with the bloodshed during India's Partition, while his colleagues compared the TMC with Nazis, as the saffron party's leaders protested in different cities on Tuesday against attacks targeting its workers in the state.

The Prime Minister, also on early Tuesday morning called up Bengal governor, Jagdeep Dhankar and expressed anger and displeasure over the present law and order situation in the state.

“PM called and expressed his serious anguish and concern at alarmingly worrisome law & order situation @MamataOfficial I share grave concerns @PMOIndia given that violence, vandalism, arson, looting and killings continue unabated. Concerned must act in overdrive to restore order," West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted.

At the same time, the Union home ministry has sought a detailed report from the state government on the post-poll violence where the opposition political workers are targeted.

BJP has claimed that already six of their activists in different pockets of the state have been killed in the post-poll violence allegedly being unleashed by Trinamool Congress goons since the time the results were declared on May 2. Similarly, Left Front and All India Secular Front (AISF) have also alleged the ruling party goons of attacking their workers. The ruling party, however, rubbished the allegations and made a counterclaim that one of the Trinamool workers were killed in Burdwan in post-poll violence.

BJP’s national president, JP Nadda arrived in Kolkata on Tuesday morning and paid a visit to the residence of some of the party supporters allegedly killed in the post-poll violence. “The post-poll violence in West Bengal has taken a shocking turn and we are really worried. Such violence had happened during the partition of the country and never in India,” Nadda told media persons.

BJP also filed a petition at the apex court seeking a thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

BJP leadership has also announced a nationwide agitation program on May 5, 2021, against the violence.
