Bihar's first woman Dy CM has a Howrah connection

62-year-old Renu Devi who took oath as one of Bihar's two Deputy Chief Ministers, has a close connection with West Bengal. Her late husband Durga Prasad was a resident of Howrah. Following her husband's demise, Devi returned to Bihar and joined politics.

Howrah (West Bengal): BJP leader Renu Devi, who on Monday took oath as the first-ever woman deputy chief minister of Bihar has a close connection with Howrah in West Bengal.

Devi's in-law's house is in the Jagachha area of Howrah. Reni Devi had married Durga Prasad, a resident of Howrah.

Devi still remains in touch with her family friends in Howrah

Following Durga Prasad's demise, Renu Devi went back to Bihar and joined politics.

However, she continues to stay in touch with family and friends in Howrah.

Earlier in March this year, before the nationwide lockdown was imposed, Devi had visited Jagachha.

A 14-member council of ministers, headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was on Monday sworn in by Governor Phagu Chauhan.

Those who were administered the oath of office included two Deputy Chief Minister designates Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi, both from the BJP.

Renu Devi, who is a former national vice president of the BJP and a four-term MLA from Bettiah, has previously served as a member of the council of ministers headed by Nitish Kumar in 2010.

Renu Devi is from the Noniya caste, which is an extremely backward class community.
