Bengal Minister Jakir Hossain injured in bomb attack

Many other people including Bengal Minister Jakir Hossain's friend were injured in the attack. Zakir Hossain was first taken to Jangipur Super Speciality Hospital. The doctors later advised him to be shifted to Kolkata.

Murshidabad (West Bengal): West Bengal Minister of State for Labour Jakir Hossain on Wednesday suffered injuries after unidentified persons hurled crude bombs at him while he was walking towards Nimtita Railway station to board the train for Kolkata.

He has been taken to a hospital, state government officials said.

The incident took place at 8:30 pm on Wednesday at platform No. 2.

Apart from the minister, 14 others were injured in the incident. Zakir Hossain was first taken to Jangipur Super Speciality Hospital. The doctors later advised him to be shifted to Kolkata.

The minister has brought to SSKM hospital for treatment from Murshidabad this morning.

He has been kept in the trauma care unit. Fourteen people, including the minister and his friend, were injured in the bombing.

The Minister was immediately admitted to Mahishadal Rural Hospital, from where he was shifted to Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was brought to Kolkata.

According to hospital sources, Zakir Hossain sustained injuries on his left leg and right hand. Some of his followers were also injured. They have also been admitted to hospital.

Meanwhile, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and BJP National General Secretary and Central Observer for West Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya condemned the attack and wished quick recovery of the injured.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar called the attack "reprehensible" and expressed concerns over rising violence in the state.

Dhankhar said that time has come for the West Bengal Home administration and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to act fast as per law, stating that there is no place for violence in a democracy.
