Uttarkashi: Uttrakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has once again stirred up a row by claiming that the people of the state have 'never received' sugar since the country got independence.
Rawat said it is his government that is offering sugar through the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the state.
Addressing workers at Uttarkashi on Saturday, Rawat said the amount of ration has been increased and for the first time under his governance the state government has decided to distribute two kilograms of sugar to all cardholders.

He added, a resolution has also been passed in the cabinet for the distribution of sugar through the PDS for three months.
The previous government had also introduced a scheme to provide 800 grams of sugar at a subsidised rate to all the cardholders in the state.
During his two-day visit to Uttarkashi, Rawat inspected Community Health Centres (CHC) and other health facilities in Barkot and Naugaon.
