Gopeshwar: The death toll in a recent avalanche in Sumna, near the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, rose to 16 on Wednesday with the recovery of one more body.
The unidentified body was recovered from the avalanche site, District Disaster Management Officer NK Joshi said.

Fifteen bodies were recovered from the site till Sunday. All the victims were Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers from Jharkhand, who went missing after the avalanche struck on Friday.
The bodies are being taken to Joshimath for a post-mortem. Eleven of the dead have been identified and they all were residents of Jharkhand.
Seven people injured in the incident are undergoing treatment. Five of them are receiving treatment at Joshimath Army Hospital while two were taken to Dehradun.

The incident took place on April 23 after a glacier burst near the India-China border in Chamoli following which the water level in the Rishi Ganga river rose by two feet.
The glacier burst took place because of heavy snowfall in the region. The burst took place in Sumna village.
