Student died at a quarantine centre in IIT Roorkee

Prem Singh, a MTech second year student of Earthquake Engineering Department at IIT Rurkee died on Monday. He was under observation at a special quarantine centre after he came in contact with a COVID patient.

Roorkee: A student died in a quarantine centre set up at IIT Roorkee on Wednesday. He was quarantined after he came into primary contact with a COVID positive Student. However, it is said that his RTPCR report had tested negative.

Prem Singh, a MTech second year student of Earthquake Engineering Department who was under observation at a special quarantine center in IIT Rurkee found in a state of unconsciousness at his room on Wednesday. Following which he was rushed to Roorkee Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

As many as 120 students have tested positive for coronavirus at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. In addition to some faculty, a large number of staff and their relatives have also been tested positive for the virus.

IIT Roorkee's media cell in-charge Sonika Srivastava has confirmed the death of the MTech student living in the Quarantine Center. She said that the student was staying at the Quarantine Center since April 11, after he came in contact with a COVID positive student. The cause of his death will only be known after the autopsy today at the civil hospital.

On Wednesday, 1,953 new cases of Corona have been reported in Uttarakhand, with this the number of active cases has risen to 10,770 in the state. So far 1,14,024 cases of the virus have been reported in the state.
