Bhageshwar: SDRF has recovered the bodies of 5 West Bengal tourists from Sunderdhunga Glacier in Uttarakhand's Bageshwar on Tuesday. However, the rescuers did not find the trace of a local guide Khilafat Singh Danu who accompanied them.
The deceased have been identified as Chandrashekhar Das, Sarit Shekhar Das, Sagar Day, Pritam Rai and Sadhan Basak.
The SDRF team had seen the bodies on Monday and has started the rescue operation on Tuesday. After recovering the bodies of five Bengali tourists from Sunderdhunga Glacier the rescuers shifted it to Kapkot through chopper. The autopsy of the bodies will take place in Kapkot.
According to the information, a local guide and four porters along with five tourists from Bengal had set out on a trek from Khati to Sunderdhunga Glacier on October 16. Due to sudden changes in weather, all the trackers got stuck in a snowstorm on October 20. However, the four porters managed to return to the Khati with severe injuries. While the five tourists from Bengal lost their lives in the Sunderdhunga glacier of Kapkot.
One of the porters who had returned said, "the guide Khilafat Singh had a walkie talkie with a local range of five km. With that, he had informed the people of Jatoli on October 20 evening. The local people then informed the administration."
