Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand): After several days, the weather condition in Kedarnath Dham improved on Thursday. The region was experiencing continuous rain and snowfall causing inconvenience to devotees. The devotees were facing hardships due to the inclement weather condition for the past several days. On Thursday, the sky was clear and the sun was shining brightly. Scores of devotees, who were waiting for the commencement of the yatra, were allowed to proceed to Kedarnath Dham taking the Sonprayag and Gaurikund route after 10 am.
On the other hand, the removal of snow due to avalanches was going on a war-footing basis. Workers were busy repairing the damaged pedestrian path at Bhairav Gadera. Kedarnath Yatra was put on hold till May 3 due to heavy snowfall and rain in the region. Kedar shrine was also witnessing heavy snowfall for the past several days.
The pedestrian path was blocked at two places due to the avalanche. The four km stretch on the way to Kedarnath Dham was blocked. The movement of devotees on this route was stopped. The workers were pressed into service to open the pedestrian route since 4 am in the morning. At least 50 to 60 laborers were engaged in removing the snow.
The road between Lincholi to Kedarnath was closed at two places as a huge chunk of snow came crashing down the pathways. The workers had a tough time opening the pedestrian pathway at Bhairon Gadere. The pathway was opened after breaking the huge mound of snow. The pilgrims have been issued warnings to move cautiously while passing through the glaciers.
