Haridwar (Uttarakhand): Patanjali Ayurveda Limited CEO and Yoga Guru Ramdev’s associate, Acharya Balkrishna on Saturday clarified amid accusations that the Ayurvedic product Coronil, produced by the Haridwar-based firm, was not approved as an alternative medicine to treat coronavirus disease by the government.

Through a video message in social media, Balkrishna said, "Patanjali has done more research than the AYUSH ministry. Patanjali has published so many articles in international research journals. Most scientists and researchers from any institution in India are working in Patanjali and we have developed many good products through the research."

"We’ve followed all procedures to manufacture the medicine -Coronil. We applied for the license based on classical evidence of the compounds used in the medicine. We worked on the compounds and put out the results of the clinical trial before people," Balkrishna said.

"If people do not want to eat Patanjali's medicine then they should not. But to avoid the coronavirus, they can consume Ashwagandha, Tulsi Ghanwati and Giloy Ghanwati. As the problems of people are increasing around the world and in such a situation, people can use these Ayurvedic medicines to avoid the coronavirus," he said.

Reportedly, following the doubts raised on the product, launched with fanfare on Tuesday, Rajasthan and Maharashtra governments said they won’t allow its sale in their territories unless it is cleared by the AYUSH ministry. In another related development, a complaint has been filed against the company in a Bihar court questioning the claim that it can cure coronavirus disease.

Notably, the ministry has sought a report from the company about the composition, testing and other data of the drugs. Patanjali Ayurved has also been asked to “stop advertising/publicising” the drug until the ministry examines its claims.
