Haldwani (Uttarakhand): 'Gulmohar Lady' is how people of Haldwani identify Tanuja Joshi, who made tree plantation the purpose of her life. Tanuja gave new breath to society and the environment after taking green activism.
Hailing from Haldwani, Tanuja likes to live a simple life and wishes to make the city green.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Tanuja said, "My life was full of struggles. Both my brothers were murdered in 1999 and 2004. After that, I was left alone in the family."
The tough journey to get justice for her brothers brought her closer to nature.
Being a nature lover, she started planting Gulmohar plants to beautify the city.

She told that in view of her campaign several organizations got involved with her. She has planted more than 10 lakhs of gulmohar and neem trees.
Her hard work and passion got her fame as Gulmohar Lady.
Apart from being a social worker, she has also worked for women empowerment. In 2018, she was honoured with the Youth Icon National Award and with Jyotirmath award.
