It should be noted that a day prior, ETV Bharat had highlighted the news featuring the plight of Hansi Prahri in Haridwar. Within 24 hours of showing the news, hundreds of helpers came forward to lend a helping hand.

What is Hansi's story?

Hansi, a resident of Rankhila village near Govindpur under Hawalbag development block of Someshwar assembly constituency in Almora district, was extremely talented right from childhood.

She took admission in Kumaon University after passing from a small school in the village. In the years 1998-99 and 2000, she became the Vice President of the Students' Union at Kumaon University.

She had completed her double MA in English and Political Science from Kumaon University. She worked as a librarian for almost 4 years at Kumaon University.

Hansi remained in depression for some time due to tensions in married life. Meanwhile, she also became inclined towards religion. She thought of leaving her family and living separately in Dharmanagri and reached Haridwar since then she lived alone away from her family. During this time, her physical condition also started getting deteriorated and she was not able to find a job anywhere.

Since 2012, she has been sustaining herself and her six-year-old child by begging for alms in Haridwar. She also wrote to the Chief Minister several times about her economic position. She also ran pillar to post between the secretariat and assembly, but in vain.

It was only after the news of ETV Bharat highlighting her plight was published, the help from the government has now finally reached her.

After the news was published, Hansi's brother, Anurag, also contacted ETV Bharat and said that he is very sad to see the condition of his sister. Anurag told that his sister Hansi not completed her studies on her own but also did a job after completing double MA at Kumaon University.

Hansi wanted that even though she had studied in the art stream, her brother and sister should study only from the science side. Not only did his sister complete her studies in the face of all the troubles, but when the money started coming from her job, her sister herself got him all the subjects.

Her life took a turn, all of a sudden, in 2003 and someone living near her house introduced her to a person.

The man was posted in the Army as CO and his duty was in Lucknow. Despite her father's repeated refusal, she got married in the temple, after which Hansi went on to live with her husband in Lucknow.

The brother recollects that, when she returned after about a year or two, she said clearly that she does not want to go to Lucknow for now.

After a while, Hansi gave birth to a daughter. Even after giving birth to her daughter, Hansi continued visiting Lucknow.

These visitations continued till 2009 or 2010, after which she left the house saying that she was going to meet her husband. Meanwhile, the family members came to know that Hansi was spotted by someone sleeping at the railway station in Haridwar. Her family had no idea that she was living in such a condition.
