Contempt petition filed against Maharashtra Governor in HC

A contempt petition has been filed against former Chief Minister and Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Even after the High Court order, the Governor has not deposited the arrears.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): A contempt petition has been filed against former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari, for not depositing the arrears of facilities even after the order of Uttarakhand High Court.

A notice was sent to Koshyari under Article 361 of the Constitution, as he holds a constitutional post which may be heard in the High Court today.

Earlier, a Public Interest Litigation Petition was filed in the High Court by the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) following which the High Court directed the former Chief Minister to deposit the dues of housing and other facilities within six months.

On not complying with the order, RLEK again filed a contempt petition in the High Court as the first notice completed 60 days on 10 October.

It should be noted that the former CM Koshyari owes Rs 4,757,758 for housing and other facilities to the state government.

There is also an arrear of electricity and water. The Supreme Court, however, has stayed the notice of contempt against former CM Vijay Bahuguna, former Chief Minister BC Khanduri in the outstanding facilities. At the same time, Union Education Minister and former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has deposited the arrears for electricity, the water of about 11 lakhs.
