"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Railways is going to make the Char Dham Yatra much easier for devotees. They will be able to travel by rail to visit Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath situated in the holy valleys of Uttarakhand."
As most of the railway line is going to be laid in hilly areas, a number of tunnels are also going to be constructed under the project. In this route, four railway lines will be laid with a total length of 327 km and these will pass through Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi.
Railways recently completed its survey work for laying the railway line between Gangotri and Yamunotri, which will be about 125 km long, 105 km of which will be under the tunnel. Meanwhile, the work of connecting Badrinath and Kedarnath through rail line is under process.
