Uttarkashi: In an incredible story of grit and determination, a six-member para-athletes team, including two above-knee amputees from Telangana achieved the unthinkable as they scaled Mount Bhagirathi II in Uttarakhand on August 24.
Arshad, Aryavardhan scale Mt Bhagirathi Hyderabad-based Aditya Mehta Foundation in a tie-up with the Border Security Force (BSF) sent 17-year-old Aryavardhan and 22-year-old Arshad for the expedition as part of a six-member team.Arshad, Aryavardhan scale Mt Bhagirathi BSF Deputy Commandant BS Rawat informed that the 21-member team left for Mount Bhagirathi (21,365 ft) on August 10 from Gangotri. The team had undergone intense training before the expedition, which culminated when they scaled Mount Bhagirathi II (18,000 ft). Owing to heavy snowfall, the team did not go beyond the 18,000 ft mark.Battling odds, above-knee amputees successfully completed the trek The two youngsters from Telangana displayed incredible grit, as it is extremely difficult for above-knee amputees to even walk on uneven surfaces without buckling. The duo, however, managed to successfully complete the arduous 16-kilometer trek.In the process, 17-year-old Aryavardhan also became the youngest above-knee amputee in the world to scale Mount Bhagirathi II.The talented duo from Telangana has now set their sights on Mount Everest, as they aim to scale the highest peak in the World in 2020.Also Read: High traffic fines to avert road accidents: Gadkari
