Haridwar: As many as eight prisoners have escaped from the temporary jail at Roshanabad district headquarters near Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Police have launched a search operation to nab them.
Police are checking vehicles and vigil has been increased near the border areas.
Following their escape, an alert has been issued across the district.
One week ago, these prisoners were shifted to the temporary jail in view of COVID-19 guidelines as they were scheduled to be sent to Central jail after their hearing in the court.
Amid rising cases of coronavirus in the state, the accommodation of beggers was converted into the temporary jail where these prisoners were kept.
