Kanpur: A man chopped off his wife's nose with a blade over suspicion of an extra-marital affair and hanged his daughter to death before committing suicide in Kanpur on Thursday, officials said. The injured woman has been admitted to a hospital and probe is on, police added.
The incident took place in Naubasta Galla Mandi of Hanuman Vihar police station area. The accused, Chhotu Shah (38) was a resident of Machhariya Bazar in Baba Nagar and worked as the driver of district panchayat member Amauli Brijesh Patel. He lived in an under construction house of Patel with his wife Rukhsar and three children including 12-year-old daughter Arju and two sons Arif and Aryan.
According to the police, the accused suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair and the couple were living separately for the last seven months. Three days back, some acquaintances brought the couple together after convincing them to clear their misunderstandings.

DCP South Salman Taj Patil said a quarrel had broken out between the couple today. Enraged at his wife, Chhotu got hold of a blade and chopped off her nose, police said. When Arju tried to oppose, Chhotu forcibly hanged her. Perplexed at the turn of events, Chhotu ran to the next room and committed suicide, police added.
A huge crowd gathered outside the house after hearing Rukhsar's screams. Soon, a police team led by DCP South reached the spot. Rukhsar was taken to the hospital while the bodies of the accused and his daughter were sent for post mortem. Police said the case was being investigated.
