Yogi government prepares to recover money from fraud teachers

The Uttar Pradesh, which has been under pressure from the opposition on the issue of corruption in teachers' appointment in the state, has started the process of issuing notices to teachers who secured jobs on fake documents to recover money that they earned.

Agra: Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has been in a tight spot over the issue of scam in teachers' appointment as one after the other educational institutions, including schools and colleges, coming under the lens of investigation agencies for wrongdoings.

In Agra alone, a total of 2824 teachers are being investigated for forgery and 930 of them have already been dismissed from their services after being found to have secured the job on basis of the fake documents.

As many as 26 cases have been registered in Shahganj Police Station here against teachers who secured jobs on fake documents.

"All 26 teachers are being investigated. Since when they were on job and how much money did they earn as their salaries, all of that is being probed and the money that they took away as salaries would be recovered," a police officer told ETV Bharat here.

She said notices in this regard will be issued soon to all concerned.

The sources say 1427 teachers would be made to repay the salaries that they received in the past years and around rupees 900 crore would be recovered from them.

Recently, the Anamika Shukla case, wherein multiple 'teachers' were found to be working on one identity of Anamika Shukla shook the state with the opposition slamming the government not taking effective steps to curb corruption in the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had to ask officials to set up a team to verify documents that helped government teachers across the state get their jobs after the Anamika Shukla case into light.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the state police was also asked to probe the case in which several lakh rupees have been withdrawn from multiple schools as salary in the name of just one teacher -- Anamika Shukla.
Following this, yet another case of corruption involving teachers came to light wherein scores of teachers were found to be receiving their salaries on the same PAN number.

Last month, the Yogi Adityanath government also had to order 'attendance by selfie' in all Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas where multiple teachers have been found to be working under one name and one document.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress demanded a Supreme Court judge-monitored probe into the scam.
