Varanasi: PM Modi applauds positive approach during lockdown

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with citizens of Varanasi via video conferencing and expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for performing rituals and offering prayers to Goddess Shailputri.

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): In the wake of the current situation of Coronavirus outbreak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with citizens of Varanasi via video conferencing for the first time after announcing lockdown in the country.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Varanasi for performing rituals and offering prayers to Goddess Shailputri to give us all the strength to fight the country's battle against Coronavirus.

During his interaction with Ankita Khatri, a housewife hailing from Kashi district of Uttar Pradesh said, "As you have announced a countrywide lockdown on Tuesday, the people of Varanasi took this announcement in a positive note and decided to utilise the time in improving their creative skills."

She further said, " I have started a campaign on several social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. My family members have contacted several artists, singers, authors and Poets of Varanasi to present their creative skills in social media with #KuchCreativeKaroNa."

She further stressed on the examinations of various classes which have been postponed due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

"I have a son whose board examination was postponed due to this pandemic. Like me, many mothers of this country have to handle their kids as the schools and colleges were shut down by the government adding that this makes the work tougher than before," added Khatri.

While wrapping up the conversation with the Prime Minister, the housewife from Varanasi said that after the completion of the lockdown period, she will gift a compilation of the creative works done by various artists during this lockdown period adding that the work will inspire others to maintain positiveness during such a drastic time.

Applauding her efforts to maintain positiveness in the society, PM Modi said, “At times, people don't pay attention to things which are important, the same is happening in India.”

He also urged people to understand facts and not to believe in rumours. He added that Coronavirus doesn't discriminate between rich and poor and it will not spare anyone if involved in mishandling of the deadly virus.

He also replied to queries and doubts of people from various walks of life, in his constituency.

The confirmed coronavirus cases in India rose to 606 on Wednesday, of whom 43 are foreign nationals, said the Union Health Ministry. There have been ten deaths so far in the country.
