UP police stop wedding over 'love jihad' claim

According to reports, Armaan Khan, a resident of Gurmiya Khan Tola had requested maulvi Ejaz Khan to officiate his wedding secretly before local people called the police to the venue.

Kushinagar: Police on Tuesday night stopped a wedding at Kushinagar in Kushinagar district over allegations that religious conversion was suspected in the marriage.

The police took the bride, the groom and relatives present at the wedding to the police station and conducted an investigation.

According to reports, Armaan Khan, a resident of Gurmiya Khan Tola had requested maulvi Ejaz Khan to officiate his wedding secretly.

When the villagers came to know of it, they reported to the local police station, who reached the venue.

Seeing the police, the crowd started dispersing and it is then they suspected that something is not right.

All the people present at the venue were taken to the police station for questioning.

Confirming the case, Ram Vilas Yadav, the station in-charge, said that investigation is going on and if the matter turns out to be of love jihad then legal action will be taken.
