Ayodhya: To restore "the lost glory of Ayodhya", the Uttar Pradesh government is working to develop it as a ‘Navya Ayodhya’ (new Ayodhya) - the coordinated model of Vedic and modern city.

The state and the central governments are working on two different models to achieve the target, official sources said.

They said global tenders have already been issued to start the work as early as possible.

According to the two models, firstly 35-kilometre square area would be beautified whereas the area of 195-kilometre square would be taken up under the second model wherein all religious places of the area would be beautified.

Officials concerned held a meeting on Wednesday to review the progress in the matter. By January 22 next year, the interested companies are expected to give their tenders.

The work of widening of the four-lane road from Rae Bareli to Ayodhya is also to be done at a cost of about Rs 1500 crore. To maintain the flow and state of cleanliness of Saryu river, a modern sewage treatment plant (STP) is also to be set up.
