Lucknow: A Chinese national has been arrested by Indian border police in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh while he was trying to illegally enter the country through India-Nepal border, an official said on Monday.
Police said, despite having a valid visa, the arrested Chinese citizen identified as Hen Lei (37) tried to enter India in an actionable way; the entry of foreign nationals from the Indo-Nepal border has been prohibited in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
Ashutosh Singh, Sonauli police officer added that a case has been registered against the Chinese citizen under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC and provisions of the Foreigners Act.

"The Chinese citizen, however claims that he is a businessman by profession and possesses a visa for India which is valid from 11 September 2019 to 9 September 2020. According to the initial interrogation, he came to New Delhi from China on 30 January 2020 and moved from Delhi to Kathmandu on 8 May. However, his tourist visa in Nepal expired on 6 June. Since then he was trying to enter India," Ashutosh Singh elaborated.
According to the sources, on Saturday a border police unit patrolling near India-Nepal border detained the intruder; the intelligence department was informed soon thereafter.
