Bhagpat: BJP leader Dr Atmaram Tomar found dead in his residence

BJP leader and former minister, Atmaram Tomar was allegedly strangled to death in his residence. The Baghpat Police have sent the body for post-mortem and investigation underway.

Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh): An elderly local BJP politician was found dead in his house in Baraut area here under mysterious circumstances, police said on Friday. 75-year-old Atmaram Tomar, a member of the party's district unit, was found dead in his house on Bijraul road on Thursday night, Baghpat Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadaun said.

The police investigation is currently underway. The relatives allege that Atmaram Tomar has been murdered by strangulation. At the same time, the miscreants have also taken the Scorpio SUV and mobile phone of the BJP leader with them. After the incident, the miscreants locked the house.

On receiving the information, the police and administration officials reached the spot. The police are checking the CCTV cameras installed nearby, in which two persons on a bike were seen going inside the house and bringing the car out. They also found a towel lying over Atmaram's face. They suspect that the towel was used to strangle him to death.

SP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said that Dr Pratap Tomar, the elder son of Atmaram Tomar, is a doctor in Meerut. He informed us about the matter. On reaching the spot, Atmaram's body was found lying on the bed in a room of the house. The door of the room was locked from outside. Immediately the dead body has been sent for post-mortem.
