Banda (Uttar Pradesh): A youth allegedly chopped off his tongue and made it as an offering at a temple in Bhati village under Babaru police limits in Uttar Pradesh's Banda town on Saturday.
The youth has been identified as Atmaram Yadav of the same village.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 11 AM on Saturday when Yadav took out a blade and chopped off his tongue and placed it at the feet of the Devi Mata temple.
Locals present inside the temple picked him up and informed the police. On being informed, police reached the spot and asked Yadav for treatment but he refused.
An eyewitness, Shyam Sundar Yadav said," Before chopping off his tongue, Yadav was saying that the God has entered his soul and he wanted to cut his head to appease the Goddess for the well-being of him. When his mother requested him not to do, then he chopped off his tongue and offered it to Devi Mata."
"He narrated also how the Goddess came in his dream and instructed him to behead himself for the well being of his family. The young man was taken to a hospital where doctors attempted to reattach his tongue, but it remains unknown if they were successful," he said.
