Meerut: A woman’s headless body, chopped into several parts, stuffed in a gunny bag was found near Lisadigate police station in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Monday.
According to sources, the gunny bag was spotted by a few locals in the evening following which they alerted the police.
The body, with the legs below the knees, had been wrapped in polythene and was spotted by passersby, who alerted the police. The woman is believed to be in her late 30s, sources said.
On being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy.
Meerut city SP, Akhilesh Narayan said, "The dead woman could be aged around 35. It is suspected that she was killed a few days ago."
"The body appears to be a few days old and locals noticed the bag due to the foul smell emanating from it. It seems that the woman, who is yet to be identified, was murdered somewhere else and her body was disposed of here. We are probing the matter," Narayan said.
Meanwhile, police said they were scanning CCTV cameras to establish who dumped the body.
