UP man to return home after almost 30 years in Pak jail

Bringing joy to family members of a man jailed in Pakistan in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district, 58-year-old son Shamsuddin is returning to India after spending almost three decades in a Pakistan prison. He is presently kept in quarantine in Amritsar and would return to his village soon.

Kanpur: A man from Uttar Pradesh who had gone to Pakistan almost three decades ago will be returning home after spending 28 years in jail in Lahore.

58-year-old Shamsuddin from Kanpur had gone to Pakistan on a visiting visa in 1992 and somehow lost his passport.

Later, he was detained by Pakistan's intelligence agencies on charges of being an Indian spy who entered the country illegally.

Shamsuddin's brother said that their mother also passed away yearning for her son's return.

He further said that the family had given up all hope of seeing him again but sudden news of Shamsuddin being alive and his return to his village, has spread joy across Kanghi Mohal village of Kanpur district.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Tripurari Pandey, Circle Officer, said that Shamsuddin was released from Pakistan's jail on October 26 and presently has been kept in quarantine in Amritsar.

He further added that the administration stands with the family and they will be given all the help they need.
