UP: High-level inquiry ordered over alleged toilet 'scam'

Every family in the Sultanpur Panchayat was supposed to be provided with a toilet. It is alleged that the allotted money was misused and the number of toilets constructed is not as per the official records submitted. An investigation has been ordered for the official confirmation of the constructed toilets.

Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh): An investigation has been called for the official confirmation of the construction of toilets here, for which a budget of Rs 200 crore was allotted.

Under Prime Minister Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission, every family in the Panchayat was supposed to be provided with a toilet. Rs 12,000 was allotted for each toilet to the officer in charge of the construction work. Although, it is alleged that the allotted money was misused and the number of toilets constructed is not as per the official records submitted.

The photographs of the constructed toilets with detailed information has to be uploaded by the officials, following which an investigation will be carried out and those found guilty will be punished accordingly.

District development officer, Madhusudan Nagaraj said that there has been a large number of flaws in the construction of toilets and over Rs 10 crore has gone into the wrong hands.
