Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): In an attempt to reduce farmer distress, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it is going to purchase crops including mustard, gram and lentils from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP).
The process will be started on April 2, a government release said.

Besides, the UP government assured the farmers who have been suffering due to the unseasonal rains that they would be compensated by the insurance companies.
The release also said that the government has instructed all the District Magistrates (DM) to issue passes for the employees of the Department of Agriculture and Revenue along with the insurance company to hold a survey over the farmers who faced loss.

On the issue of cold storage, the government informed that the horticulture department has started the process of sanitising all cold storages. Therefore, farmers who have been struggling with fast perishable items will get some relief.
It seems that the attempts taken by the UP government might provide a cushion to farmers amid the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown and the incoming recession.
