UP: Aircraft crashes in Aligarh, crew makes narrow escape

A trainee aircraft crashed at the Dhanipur airstrip in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on Sunday. The plane got stuck in the mud, dragging it for about 20 to 25 meters. The plane did not catch fire and the pilot and trainee pilot escaped safely.

Aligarh: A trainee aircraft crashed at the Dhanipur airstrip in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on Sunday. The plane got stuck in the mud, dragging it for about 20 to 25 meters. The plane did not catch fire and the pilot and trainee pilot escaped safely. The Investigation Team of Civil Aviation arrived from Delhi on Monday to investigate the matter. For now, all types of flights and landings have been banned at the airport.

The Dhanipur airstrip in Aligarh is planned to develop as one of the well-established airports following which the run-way is being expanded here. Airport related facilities are also being provided in the new building. Four flying clubs have been registered here to provide training to pilots. The airport will cost about Rs 4 crore which was approved by the district administration.

On Sunday, a local flying session was taking place and during the landing, the wheels of the plane got off the runway while swaying. Pilot Prashant Goswami and trainee pilot were on board the plane. After the incident, city magistrate Vineet Kumar Singh went to spot and inspected.

Two years ago, a nine-seater chartered plane had crashed at the Dhanipur airstrip while landing. However, no one died at that time, but the plane was burnt to ashes due to fire.
