Ghaziabad: Chandrashekhar Azad, the national president of Azad Samaj Party, said that the government is benefiting some capitalists by giving unequal compensation to farmers whose land had been acquired for the Delhi Meerut Expressway construction.
A farmers' meeting on Thursday demanded equal compensation for land acquired.
Chandrashekhar Azad was stopped by Muradnagar Police near Ganga Canal, while on his way to the meeting.
ETV Bharat had a conversation with Chandrashekhar Azad where he told that the rate of land acquisition for the Delhi Meerut Expressway has been kept at Rs 22,000 and at some places it is Rs 46,000.
"Farmers are being mistreated, giving benefits to some rich people will deprive the poor ones of their rights, it is wrong, and today there is a meeting to raise voice against this discrimination," he said.
"I was going to support them but I was stopped on the way by the administration," he added.
With this, Chandrashekhar Azad says that farmers, labourers are the backbone of this country. The farmers have been demanding the right compensation for 8 months, but the government is not doing anything to help them.
That is why it is the responsibility of all of us to raise our voice and send a message to the government that this will not work in a democracy, he added.
