Kanpur: Drones are being deployed by the traffic police in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur to monitor traffic in the region and prevent road accidents.
According to police, drones fitted with cameras can help the police to keep a watch on miscreants on roads and prevent accidents. Also, traffic congestion at the crossovers can be reduced with the help of aerial surveillance.
A few months back, UP police had used the drones to search and locate the pack of dogs that were attacking people in Sitapur.
According to reports, aerial surveillance and pictures from drone cameras will help in gathering data and aid the police in maintaining the law and order in their district.
"The administration is using drone cameras to monitor traffic and prevent accidents in the city," police said on Sunday.
"The good thing about this drive is that officials of all ranks and stature are participating in it to make people aware of road safety. We are targeting a 10 per cent reduction in cases of deaths due to accidents in the city," a police official said.
