Shahjahanpur: At least 12 school kids were taken to the community health centre (CHC) in Shahjahanpur's Banda district on Monday morning after they consumed Jatropha seeds.
From CHC, the doctors referred them to the district hospital for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable.
The incident took place at the Dhukuri Buzurg Primary school under Banda police station limits.
One of the students had brought Jatropha seeds with him and gave it to his classmates. Later, he suggested them to eat the seeds. The students consumed seeds during recess, following which their health started deteriorating. Jatropha seeds are used for the production of biodiesel.
The school authorities were shocked by this sudden turn of event.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Rakesh Kumar said, “Children in a primary school fell ill after consuming jatropha seeds and all were taken to CHC to ensure timely treatment. This information was immediately shared with the district magistrate and other senior officials. We brought all the children to the district hospital on the advice of CMO."
Chief Medical Officer, RP Rawat said, "All the children were admitted to CHC hospital after they consumed jatropha seeds.Subsequently, doctors referred them to district hospital keeping in view the worsening conditions of students. Six students who have been admitted to district hospital are stated to be stable while the condition of six others is unknown as they are yet to arrive."
