While addressing the media, Congress leader Alka Lamba said, "The same pattern has been followed in this case as well after Unnao and Hathras. The entire police, administration and even the Government is not just failing to provide safety to women from such crimes, but also trying to safeguard the accused from any legal action."

"The victim's family has alleged that at first, police reached late at the site, then they registered the FIR very late and even tried to prove it as a suicide case. This is a grave situation as Yogi Adityanath-led UP Government is not at all serious about the rise in crimes against women," she further added.

The incident took place in Mewali village on Sunday evening. According to the post-mortem report, an iron rod was inserted into the women's private parts, several ribs and leg were broken, and even her lung was punctured.

Calling it a case reminiscent of the brutal Nirbhaya gangrape, Congress party demanded that the prime accused should get arrested within 24 hours and the case should be sent to the fast-track court.

"We demand that the hearing should be done in fast track court so that the accused gets punished the earliest. The probe should be done under the sitting judge of a High Court. In addition to this, the victim's family should get compensation of at least Rs 50 lakhs," Alka Lamba said.

She also attacked Union Minister Smriti Irani for being silent on this matter, saying, "I hope that Smriti Irani ji will give some priority to this matter, apart from the West Bengal polls, to demand justice from the UP CM."

She asserted that Congress is willing to once again get down on the streets to demand justice as it did during the Hathras incident.

Earlier today, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also slammed the UP Government for police's negligence in the matter of women's safety. She tweeted, "In Hathras, the government administration did not listen to the voice of those who were pleading. The government saved officials and suppressed the victim's voice. In Budaun, the police station officer did not listen to the one pleading and did not even examine the place of the incident. There is something wrong in the UP government's intentions on women's security."
