Kanpur: In the latest discovery in the Kanpur encounter case, police found that the semi-automatic rifle used to shoot at the policemen in Bikru village was bought from the National Gun House in here.
Police investigation revealed that the rifle had been bought from the National Gun House in Kanpur without the Governor's permission.
Also, it was bought by prime accused Vikas Dubey's brother Deepak under his own licence in 2010.
It is to be noted that semi-automatic rifles at the Gun House can neither be sold nor bought by anyone without prior permission from the Governor.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Eight police personnel, including a DSP, were shot dead in an encounter at a village near Kanpur by the henchmen of Vikas Dubey.
The encounter took place when the police team was approaching to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases, in Dikru village under Chaubeypur police station on the intervening night of July 2 and July 3.
As the police team was about to reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal, a hail of bullets was showered on them from a building rooftop, leaving Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead.
Seven others, including a civilian, were injured in the attack.
