Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): A special CBI court trying the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case recorded the statement of the accused Dr Ram Vilas Vedanti on Tuesday.
The accused, appeared before Special Judge S K Yadav for the recording of his statement under section 313 of CrPC, which allows the accused to explain the allegations against them.
While talking to ETV Bharat, Dr Vedanti said that there was no proof of having a mosque on the disputed land. He further said that he had only destructed the remains of the Hindu temple including idols of Lord Ganesha, Vishnu and goddesses Durga.
"There was no sign of having any mosque at the Ram Lala's land. I had destructed only the remains of the temple. If the court awards me a death sentence in the destruction of the temple, I would opt to die," said the accused.
He further asserted that the temple will be built at any cost.
It is to be noted that the Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992 by ''karsevaks'' who claimed that the mosque in Ayodhya was built on the site of an ancient Ram temple.
