Ram Janmabhoomi Trust decides dates of 'bhoomi pujan'

The Ram Mandir Trust, set up on the Supreme Court's direction to supervise and facilitate the construction of the Lord Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, held a meeting on Saturday and decided the date for bhoomi pujan (land worship) for the construction of the Ram temple.

Ayodhya: The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust held a meeting in Ayodhya on Saturday and decided the date for bhoomi pujan (land worship) for the construction of the Ram temple.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Swami Govind Dev Giri, member of the trust, said, "Two dates have been decided to lay down the foundation of the Ram Temple. We have sent to Prime Minister two dates to choose from - either July 29 or August 5."

Meanwhile, Kameshwar Chaupal of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said that the construction could begin on either August 3 or August 5 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi picks one of the two dates.

Most of the trust members participated in the meeting. Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the trust's building construction committee had reached Ayodhya on Wednesday.

Other members, including Govindev Giri, Kameshwar Chaupal and Yugapurusha Swami Parmanand also reached Ayodhya later on Saturday.

The members who were unable to reach Ayodhya due to the coronavirus pandemic were connected through video conferencing.

Dr Krishna Gopal, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) joint general secretary, reached Ayodhya on Friday and met the seers associated with the temple construction, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders and officials of the temple trust.

Gopal held a meeting with members of the temple trust at Karsevakapuram in the day where he discussed issues pertaining to temple construction and finalization of the agenda for Saturday's meeting.

Mahant Kamalnayan Das, president of the Ram Mandir Trust and the successor of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath should visit Ayodhya soon and lay the foundation stone for the construction of the Ram temple.

Members of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerath Kshetra Trust including general secretary Champat Rai also discussed the issue related to the structure of the proposed temple.

According to a trust official, a minor change has been made in the structure as there would be 5 tombs now instead of 3 which was decided earlier.
