Prayagraj (UP): Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh has constructed the maximum number of community toilets in India under the Centre's flagship Swachh Bharat Mission scheme.
As per data, till now, as many as 1140 community toilets have been constructed in the district, highest among all districts in India.
Speaking to ETV Bharat on this, Ashish Kumar, Chief Development Officer of the district, said that 1140 toilets have been constructed and within a month, all the pending toilets will also be completed.
"We are committed to make community toilets in every panchayat of the district. We have also deployed teams to look after the cleanliness of toilets," he said.
Pink toilets are the priority
Kumar said that making pink toilets are on priority to help women and girls access hygienic washrooms.
The first-of-its-kind facility in the district will have vending machines for sanitary napkins and incinerator facilities, he added.
It is to be noted that the government had launched Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014, with an aim of eliminating open defecation, manual scavenging and scientific management of municipal waste.
