Sitapur: Voters in UP's Sitapur district may choose the 'None of The Above' (NOTA) option in more numbers in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as 12,682 voters opted for NOTA during the 2014 general elections.
NOTA got more votes in four Lok Sabha constituencies under Sitapur district leaving 41 aspirants in the fray out of which 12 aspirants were from Sitapur Lok Sabha constituency. NOTA here was the fifth runner-up after BJP, BSP, SP and Congress in the last elections.
There are nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Sitapur district.
A similar trend was reported from Mohanlalganj Lok Sabha constituency which is in Lucknow district, where 10 candidates from different parties were lagging behind the NOTA.
Out of the 18 aspirants in Mohanlalganj, 10 got lesser number of votes from NOTA whereas 8 got more votes compared to NOTA. About 4708 voters opted for NOTA here in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
In Dhaurahra Lok Sabha constituency which comes under Lakhimpur Kheri district, 15 contestants were in the fray out of which nine of them were lagging behind the NOTA. 8,138 voters here opted for NOTA.
9,633 voters in MisrikhLok Sabha constituency which comes under Sitapur district have chosen NOTA as the best option during the last general elections. Out of 14 aspirants here 10 were lagging behind NOTA.
The NOTA option made its Lok Sabha debut in 2014. It allows voters to reject the candidates contesting in a particular Lok Sabha seat.
