Navy commando dies during paratrooping training in Agra

The Navy commando's parachute got entangled in high-tension wire. He was taken to the hospital where he died during treatment today.

Agra: A 26-year-old navy commando died after his parachute got entangled in a high-tension wire in Agra, police sources said. The local people took him to the hospital where he died during treatment today. The commando, Ankush Sharma was a resident of Jammu and Kahsmir and had come for paratrooping training to Agra Air Force Station.

The incident occurred in the Malpura police station area in Agra on Thursday evening when Ankush was participating in the training session. Police said that he jumped from a height of around 8,000 feet but, due to strong wind his parachute deviated one and a half kilometres from the dropping area and got entangled in a high-tension wire.

The commando was seriously injured in the incident. The local people took him to the Military hospital for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Army jawan Faran Singh, who had come to his hometown on leave, said he saw that the parachute was entangled in the high-tension wire last evening. After a while, a person fell down from the parachute, he said. When he went near he saw that the person was a Navy commando. "The commando was moaning of pain and blood was oozing out from his nose and mouth. Soon, other commandos called him on his mobile and they were informed about the incident," Faran said.

Faran said he called his brother Roopkishore and his friend Dharmendra Singh, a constable to the spot and informed Malpura police. Ankush was taken to the Millitary Hospital for treatment. Tejveer Singh, station-in-charge of Malpura said that the Navy commando met with an accident during para trooping and died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
