Lakhimpur: Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday sit on a hunger strike at the residence of deceased journalist Raman Kashyap in Lakhimpur Kheri. The journalist lost his life while covering farmers protest in Lakhimpur Kheri which later turn out into a clash claiming the lives of 8, including four farmers.
Sidhu said he will continue the hunger strike till action has been taken against Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish. Singh tweeted, "Justice Delayed - Justice Denied … With a family of brave heart Lovepreet Singh (20), a victim of brutal murders by Union Minister’s son."
Earlier on Thursday a Congress march to Lakhimpur Kheri headed by Navjot Singh was stopped by the administration at Shahjahanpur, the border of the Uttar Pradesh-Haryana. Singh along with party members was also taken into custody.
While on Friday the Congress leaders were released and allowed to meet the family members of the victims of the Lakhimpur violence. Eight people were killed on last Sunday as violence erupted during a farmers' protest, claiming the lives of both farmers and BJP workers ahead of a visit to Lakhimpur by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, government officials said. Two SUVs were set on fire by angry farmers in the clash near Banbirpur in Lakhimpur Kheri.
