Mirzapur (UP): In Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir of Vindhyachal Dham, Mirzapur, an altercation which broke out between two groups of priests turned out into a violent clash. During the scuffle, one priest of the opposite group was allegedly beaten up by the other priests, in a brutal manner. Despite, the priest having fallen to the ground, they continued to rain blows on him. As soon as the video went viral, the Vindhyachal police swung into action.
Purohit Amit, who was injured in the fight, lodged a complaint in the Vindhyachal Police Station, on the basis of which police registered a case against Bhanu, Bhigu, Nityanand and Shivanand under various sections including assault. The victim also told the police that there might be a deadly attack on him, adding that earlier on June 28 he bad been targeted by the group. An investigation into the incident is underway.

According to Mirzapur ASP Sanjay Verma, an altercation over darshan had led to a scuffle between the priests. The video of Purohit beating has also gone viral. Earlier in the month of June, a priest who was trying to forcibly make way for two devotees was roughed up by the cops for flouting Covid norms.
