Mayawati, in a series of tweets, said that while debates on CAA were acceptable, it was wrong to include the controversial issue in the curriculum and that too, when the matter was in court.

She even said that whenever the BSP returned to power in Uttar Pradesh, it would remove the subject.

She said that students across the country were holding protests on CAA and the Lucknow University was indulging in politics by including it in the syllabus.

Meanwhile, Shukla said that there was an urgent need to educate people on the issue of CAA and students were an important part of this group.

"We are also preparing to hold debates on the subject," he added.

The Lucknow University is the second university in Uttar Pradesh to moot the idea of including CAA in the syllabus. A few days ago, the Rajarshi Tandon Open University in Prayagraj had announced that it would include CAA as a subject.
