Man dies while standing in queue for COVID-19 screening in Varanasi

A man died while standing in a queue for the COVID-19 screening at the ESI Hospital in Varanasi on Thursday. Many speculated that he was suffering from coronavirus but later it got confirmed that he died due to epilepsy disease.

Varanasi: A man died while standing in queue for COVID-19 screening at the ESI Hospital in Varanasi on Thursday night.

The body of the deceased was kept wrapped in a cover in the hospital premises till late night. He had reportedly returned from Maharashtra two days ago.

In a statement issued by the Varanasi District Collector, it was clarified that the young man died due to epilepsy disease and not due to COVID-19.

"The man used to work in a mobile repairing shop in Mumbai. After seeing worsening conditions and unemployment in the state, he came back to his town. After returning home, he immediately came to the ESI hospital for the screening. While standing in the queue suddenly the man fainted and later died," District Collector informed.

As the precautionary step, the dead body was kept in the hospital premises after wrapping and sanitizing completely under the Corona Protocol, the statement said.

The body was later handed over to his family members.

In Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district, 90 people have so far tested positive for coronavirus and two people have succumbed to the disease.
