Kanpur: In an embarrassing incident, a post office in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh has printed postal stamps carrying pictures of underworld don Chhota Rajan and gangster Munna Bajrangi.
The stamps were printed in accordance with the Union government’s 'My Stamp' scheme.
Under the ‘My Stamp’ scheme, one can get personalised sheets of postage stamps of India Post. Using the stamp, one can send letters to any part of the country.
Taking advantage of the same, somebody took the photographs of Munna Bajrangi, who was killed in jail in a gang war and printed 12 stamps. The person also printed stamps with pictures of Chhota Ranjan on 12 stamps.
The shocking part, however, is that the post office has received Rs 600 for this. The postal department officials did not check the pictures, nor did they verify the details before issuing these stamps.
Meanwhile, officials clarified that the employees should have been careful in verifying the pictures.
Speaking to media persons, Kanpur's postmaster general, Vinod Kumar Verma said that there has been negligence on part of the department, and added that there will be a thorough investigation in the case.
The Kanpur postal department has ordered a probe into the incident to find the person responsible for the mischief. The incident has left the postal department red-faced and also exposed the negligence of the officials.
