Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): In an exemplary show of humanity, the Kanpur district jail administration allowed an inmate to catch a final glimpse of his deceased son via a video call before the final rites of the boy were to be conducted.

According to reports, the inmate Arvind's five-year-old son had died at the hospital after suffering from illness. The inmate's wife Anjali wanted her husband to carry out the final rites of her son.

However, this would not be possible without the inmate getting parole.

The mother had brought her son's dead body to the jail and requested the authorities to at least allow Arvind to physically see his dead son for one last time before the final rites.

However, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, interactions between inmates and visitors are currently not allowed, hence the authorities initially turned Anjali away.

After repeated pleas by the woman, authorities finally decided to allow Arvind to catch a final glimpse of his deceased son via a video call.

"The authorities got him on a video call with us. It would have been better if he were allowed to physically see his dead son," said Subhash, the inmate's uncle.

It was an emotional moment for the family, as they grieved the demise of their son on the video call.
