Lucknow: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Kanpur encounter case, in which eight police personnel were killed when they went to arrest gangster Vikas Dubey, will record statements of people regarding the case from today till July 25, according to government sources.
The statements will be recorded on nine points on which the investigation is underway and anyone who has information regarding the case can contact the SIT, government sources said. The SIT will not be recording statements on Saturday and Sunday as there is a lockdown on those days in the state.
The statements will be recorded from 12 noon to 2 pm. The SIT has been asked to submit its report to the state's Chief Minister by July 31.

In the SIT probe, anyone with information can provide evidence related to the incident to the investigating officer. The SIT has also released its email and office address for anyone wishing to record a statement regarding the case.
Vikas Dubey was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police in Ujjain on July 9. He was on the run and had come to the city to offer prayers at the Mahakal temple.
Dubey was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police on July 10 after he "attempted to flee".
The gangster was the main accused in the encounter that took place in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur, in which a group of assailants opened fire on a police team, which had gone to arrest him. Eight police personnel were killed in the encounter.
Timeline of Vikas Dubey encounter case:
July 2: Vikas Dubey and his accomplices had shot dead eight police personnel in Bikru village under Chaubeypur police on the intervening night of July 2 and 3. The police team had gone to Vikas Dubey's house to arrest him in a case of attempted murder.
July 3: The Kanpur police shot dead two suspects, Prem Prakash Pandey and Atul Dubey, within four hours of the incident. A Special Task Force was deployed to lead the investigation and at least 40 police teams were formed to arrest the kingpin.
July 4: Station officer Vinay Tiwari and inspector K.K. Sharma's roles were probed after the cops suspected that they might have tipped off the gangster. In a major reshuffle, at least ten police officers were transferred to Chaubeypur police station.
July 5: Cops arrested Daya Shankar Agnihotri, an accomplice of Vikas Dubey and his domestic help. Agnihotri told the cops that they were tipped about the raid and henchmen were called to attack the police team.
July 6: In another development, cops arrested Amar Dubey's mother, who was considered to be the right hand of Vikas Dubey. Daya Shankar's wife Rekha was also detained for her alleged involvement in the Kanpur encounter.
July 7: Station officer Vinod Tiwari and KK Sharma were suspended after their call detail records confirmed their conversation with the gangster. Both of them were arrested and later suspended.
July 8: Wanted criminal Vikas Dubey's right hand, Amar Dubey, was shot dead in an encounter who was also involved in the Kanpur ambush following a tip-off. Cops arrested Prabhat Mishra and other accomplices of Vikas Dubey.
July 9: Prabhat Mishra and Bahua Dubey, close aides of Vikas Dubey, were killed in separate encounters in Etawah and Kanpur. Dubey was spotted at Ujjain's Mahakal temple. Dubey managed to reach Faridabad where he was caught in a CCTV camera at a hotel, but he managed to escape.
July 10: The criminal was brought to on Friday morning when the SUV he was being brought in overturned and he was killed while trying to flee. The much-dreaded gangster was killed exactly after a week after a long chase.
