Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday attached the property worth crores belonging to former Samajwadi Party MP Atique Ahmad, claiming that it was illegal.
The District Magistrate issued the order to attach a plot in the Neem Sarai area, which was in Atique Ahmad's name.
According to officials, the former MP and five-time MLA, a resident of Chakiad in Khuldabad police limits, had illegally captured many properties.
As part of the investigation in the Gangster Act case registered against Atique Ahmed at Cantt police station, the police are tracing illegally acquired properties of Ahmad and his close associates, Prayagraj SSP Sarvashresth Tripathi said.
Significantly, the police administration and the Prayagraj Development Authority have till now taken action on property worth more than Rs 200 crore belonging to Ahmad in Prayagraj.
The Prayagraj Development Authority had recently demolished Ahmad's luxurious ancestral house.

Administrative officials said that the action against such illegal occupation of property would continue in the future.
Ahmad was an SP member in the 14th Lok Sabha from Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. He was also associated with the Apna Dal.
