Hunger strike of Ghaziabad Parents Association members enters day 6

Members of the Ghaziabad Parents Association have continued their protest and hunger strike for the straight sixth day with two women getting admitted to the hospital as their health deteriorated. The protesters have demanded quick actions on their demands to restore normalcy.

Ghaziabad: The hunger strike of the members of Ghaziabad Parents Association continues for the sixth day. President of Ghaziabad Parents Association Seema Tyagi along with the guardians has been sitting on hunger strike since September 2 to stage a protest outside the district headquarters. They have alleged that neither the government nor the school management is concerned about their worries.

Sadhna Singh and Bharti Sharma were admitted to the hospital after their health worsened but after being discharged from the hospital, Singh on Monday again joined the hunger strike to meet the association's demands.

As the protest intensified, District Magistrate reached the site to convince the demonstrators and held a 15-minute long conversation with them.

Ghaziabad Parents Association has kept following demands before the government and district administration:

  • School fees of one-quarter (April, May and June) to be waived off following the nationwide lockdown induced by the coronavirus pandemic.
  • A complete ban on online classes for the students up to class 5
  • Fees should be decided based on the education being provided online till the school reopens.
  • Government schools should be renovated.
  • NCERT syllabus should be strictly ensured in all private schools.

Members of the Parents Association have clarified that they will continue their hunger strike and protest until the district administration takes a concrete step on their demands.
