Lakhimpur: Every morning without fail, Anurag Maurya wakes up early and leaves his house at around 7:30 am to reach the district hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri and unrelentingly feeds thousands of poor people every day.
Anurag's mission is to reach out to those in need and offer them food, free of cost.
As many as 200 poor patients who cannot afford a decent meal, line up in neat rows in the hospital and wait for him to arrive.
Recounting how he began his free food camp venture, Anurag said, "It all started when I witnessed the condition of people in the district hospital who hailed from a humble background and were unable to feed themselves. Inspired by the teachings of Gayatri family, I started offering food to those in need. My deepest satisfaction and greatest wealth lies in feeding the poor."
He added, "It started off as a tiffin service wherein I used to feed two to four people but the number increased considerably over the years and now I feed hundreds of people every day."
Anurag, along with his team members, offers food with great reverence to each one of them without any discrimination. He says, "Hunger has no religion."
Taking into consideration the miserable condition of poor people, he started this initiative named 'Bhagwati Devi Food Service'. He is now known as Food Man in the district.
He is associated with the Gayatri family in which social service is considered supreme. There is a big role of Anurag parents' behind this initiative.
Anurag's wife Sangeeta says he prepares the meal with sheer love. The whole family helps him in preparing the food including his 9-year-old daughter. Around 400 people get benefited by the kind gesture.
