Noida (Uttar Pradesh): At a time when the country seems divided along communal lines, Ramveer Singh, a Hindu by religion, hosted an Iftar (the meal with which Muslims open their fast during the month of Ramzan) party on Friday for his Muslim friends in Chhapraula village of Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida.
A salaried employee of Tata Motors, Singh decided to host the party to send out a message of peace and harmony among the people.
"I organised this event to spread the message of peace and harmony among Hindus and Muslims and to set this as an example. Some elements in our society are trying to incite enmity between the two religious communities, but we shouldn't let this happen."
Singh had arranged a range of delicacies for his fasting friends, including fruits, samosas (savoury snack), kheer (sweet dish) apart from drinking water.
Before sundown on Friday, several men, both Hindu and Muslim, gathered within the premise of Singh's office and opened their fast with the Iftar offered by Singh and thereafter held Namaz (prayer).
