Varanasi: Authorities of the Institute of Medical Science, Banaras Hindu University have claimed that a woman gave birth to a COVID19 positive child on Thursday.
The woman from Chandauli was admitted to the medical college hospital on May 24 after she tested negative for COVID19.

However, an RT-PCR test conducted on the woman's newborn on May 26 reportedly showed the infant COVID19.
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. KK Gupta claimed that it is a rare condition as infants usually contact the virus from the infected mothers.

"The RTPCR tests of the mother-child duo will be done again as the results depend on the specificity and sensitivity of the virus," he added.
According to doctors, both of them are doing well.
